CityDesk 2.0 Is Here!

CityDesk 2.0 is now shipping! And of course, this version is better than ever. Here are just a few of the great new features:

  • A built-in picture editor
  • An automatic backup feature
  • Syntax Coloring in the HTML editor
  • Generates valid XHTML web sites
  • Full support for Unicode and sites in any language
  • Many CityScript improvements such as automatic Next / Previous links between a sequence of articles, fancy forEach loops that do things like alternate between two styles, and an include statement
  • A new "Contributor Edition" allows end-users to modify sites without going into Designer Mode
  • Hundreds of small fixes and improvements

If you're using CityDesk 1.0, there's no reason not to upgrade, because the upgrade is free! That's right: any paid user of CityDesk 1.0 can download version 2.0 absolutely free. But wait—it gets better. If you purchased CityDesk 1.0 Home Edition, you will receive a free upgrade to CityDesk Professional. Now there's no limit to the size of sites you can publish!

Using the Starter Edition?

Just download the 2.0 version of the Starter Edition here.

Using the Home or Professional Edition?

Log onto the Fog Creek Shop using your original order ID number and email address, and you'll be able to download the latest version. If you don't have your order ID number, you can use this page to get it. If you don't know the email address you used on the order, click here to send us an email, and  please provide as much of the following information from the order as is feasible: the person who placed the order, company name, mailing address, telephone number, type of payment, and date of purchase.

Upgrading CityDesk 1.0 Sites

When you first open a 1.0 site with CityDesk 2.0, it will be upgraded automatically. Before this happens, a copy will be made of your old 1.0 site using the extension ".bak" in the same directory.

CityDesk 2.0 sites cannot be used in CityDesk 1.0. If you try to open an upgraded site in 1.0, the poor old foolish 1.0 CityDesk will think that it's from an older version and act like it's trying to "upgrade" it, which will then fail harmlessly. This is a bug in 1.0. Basically, the 1.0 to 2.0 upgrade is a one way process.

If you have multiple users working on the same site you'll need to upgrade all or none of them to 2.0.
